Planet Ready is Crowd-Raising for Harvey and Irma!

You can help small businesses affected by Hurricane’s Harvey and Irma in Texas, Louisiana, Florida, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands get back in business through a donation to Planet Ready a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.  The money will also be spent specifically to encourage emergency preparedness, improved public and private sector coordination, and training for future events.

Your money will support response and recovery efforts for communities that have been directly impacted by the Hurricane winds and flooding, and will help to keep families businesses afloat during the next few very difficult weeks, while some may apply for disaster assistance from the Small Business Administration or the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

You can give money today via PayPal below.  Monies will be spent supporting local missions in partnership with the University of Central Florida and partner companies.

Welcome to Planet Ready!

My wife told me that most people think that emergency preparedness is just about as exciting as flossing your teeth.  And she’s right!

Here’s the problem.  Most of us don’t pay attention to preparedness until after we have been personally affected by a disaster and it has cost us time, resources or even worse, the loss of a loved one.  We think “it won’t happen to me”, “if it does happen, it won’t happen to me”, “if it does happen to me, it won’t be that bad”, or “if it happens to me and its bad, there’s nothing I can do to stop it anyway”.  As a result of our inattention to preparedness, we are not adequately prepared for 21st century threats and hazards.

Have you ever noticed that some of the most important things in life are the least exciting?  You may know the story of the ant and the grasshopper from Aesop’s fables.  “Why bother about winter?” said the Grasshopper; “We have got plenty of food at present.” But the Ant went on its way and continued its toil…

Ack!  Toil is such a nasty word. It is not very motivating.  Yet the ant had a plan and persistent action turned out to be lifesaving for the ant.

I have one simple question for you.  Is your family or business prepared for a disaster? It’s okay to admit if you aren’t ready, most of us aren’t.  It’s often too time consuming, expensive and difficult to know where to start.

I have good news. You can get started with just one click at www.PlanetReady.com.

There are four primary things you can do at Planet Ready.

  • Plan – Understand your local hazards, calculate a personal risk score, and build a customized plan.
  • Train – Get ready with on-demand training videos, self-directed exercise simulations, e-learning courses, and games.
  • Shop – Find items to complete your plan in our store. Use Ready Bucks to purchase items at a discount price.
  • Help – Donate to disaster survivors and small businesses, or request assistance if you have been affected by a disaster.

Some of the features will be rolled out in the coming weeks (i.e. risk score, games, peer-to-peer donations), but you can build a plan, get trained, and shop today!
